About ClearCost UK

Free, independent UK personal finance calculators. No signup. No data collected. Just accurate answers.

What is ClearCost UK?

ClearCost UK is a free collection of personal finance calculators built specifically for the United Kingdom. Every tool covers a real UK scenario - from working out your take-home pay after HMRC deductions, to calculating stamp duty across England, Scotland and Wales, to understanding what your energy bills will look like after Ofgem price cap changes.

There are a lot of generic calculators on the internet. Most are built for the US market and retrofitted for the UK, or they require you to create an account, or they bury the actual result under adverts. ClearCost UK is built differently: every calculator is UK-first, uses current rates and legislation, and gives you the result immediately.

Who builds it?

ClearCost UK is an independent project. It is not affiliated with HMRC, the Financial Conduct Authority, or any financial services provider. The calculators are built and updated by a small team focused on making UK financial maths accessible to everyone.

We are not financial advisers. The results produced by our tools are estimates intended to help you understand your finances - they should not be used as a substitute for professional financial advice on significant decisions.

How are the calculators kept up to date?

UK tax rates, thresholds, benefits rates, energy price caps and other figures change regularly. We review every calculator at each major update point - the April tax year start, Ofgem quarterly reviews, Autumn Statement, Spring Budget, and any mid-year HMRC changes. Each tool displays the tax year or rate period it applies to so you always know what data you are working with.

If you spot a figure that looks out of date, or a scenario our calculators do not currently handle, please use the contact page to let us know.

Is my data safe?

Every calculation on ClearCost UK runs entirely in your browser. No numbers you enter are ever sent to our servers, stored in a database, or shared with third parties. The only data we collect is anonymous usage analytics (page views, not calculation inputs) to understand which tools are most useful. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Why is it free?

ClearCost UK is supported by display advertising. The calculators will always remain free to use. We do not sell data, offer premium tiers, or require account creation. The site exists to be genuinely useful - the advertising supports the cost of keeping it running and up to date.
